Article: "Telegram's massive revenge porn problem has made these women's lives hell" by Rachel Kraus
I illustrated and animated sequences for an investigative piece that raises awareness to the exploitive, predatory groups that exist on the messaging app Telegram. The project focuses on the case of two women based in two different countries, connected by their relationship with a Telegram user who has purposefully mislead them to exploit their personal details and intimate photos to share with other users.
Through a combination of the limitations of working remotely while communicating with figures from different regions, it was important for me to create visuals that supported the serious topic at hand in a respectful, poignant way, all while preserving anonymity and sensitive information where needed.
In relation to my identity as a Filipino American, I also provided cultural consultation and translation in regards to the subjects based in the Philippines and to provide insights on the issues that were impacted by Philippine law.
The project is a recipient of the Ziff Davis Achievement Award in 2020, and was honored as a nominee in the Print/Online category for Gender and Society at the 63rd annual Southern California Journalism Awards in 2021.
